FAQ

  • How long will therapy last?
With Our Mindful Counsellor the number of sessions is dependent on how many goals and difficulties you are experiencing. The effectiveness of therapy is determined by regular attendance with weekly sessions which can be spaced out as you gain more understanding. A minimum of 10 sessions is recommended up to 20 however, please make me aware if you can only budget for a set number, as this will allow for the ending of therapy to be planned. You can re-engage in therapy at any time as there are no limitations.
  • Where can I go for urgent support?
If you have suicidal thoughts or are considering harming yourself it is important to reach out for urgent help. This can be provided by your GP, the Samaritans or your local A&E department. Samaritans (Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) phone: 116 123

  • What is psychological therapy?
Therapy provides a safe and confidential space for you talk to a professional about your difficulties. We will explore your feelings, thinking patterns and resulting behaviours, allowing you to understand yourself and other relationships better. I will support you to find your own solutions by making sustainable changes or adapting coping methods.
  • Are there any contradictions for therapy?
I am unable to see people if they are under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs. At our initial telephone consultation, we will briefly talk through your difficulties and your goals for therapy. I will be open and honest with you should your needs may be better addressed by another provider and can direct you to where you may locate a more appropriate service. I will not encourage you to continue with therapy if you are not benefitting from the sessions or if we are unable to move towards your goals.
  • Will my information be confidential?
Any records of your sessions are confidential in accordance with Data Protection Act 2018. There are exceptions in the following cases: - If there is a need to contact your GP as part of your care - When you give consent for confidentiality to be broken - If there is reason to believe there is risk of you harming yourself or others - If a disclosure is of a serious nature where confidentiality cannot be maintained including relating to child protection, safeguarding, acts of terrorism, fraud and crime.
